For several days now I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to say this.  It is something I feel strongly that I need to say, but how do I say it without just repeating something that has already been said many times by many people.
 
All my life I have resisted referring to the gospel as “The Faith of Our Fathers.”  When I was a teen I recoiled when someone said we teenagers were the “Christians of tomorrow.”  Shouldn’t faith be something that I own, rather than something I borrowed or inherited?
 
And yet this is the simple confession that was made by the Ethiopian eunuch when he was baptized.  This is the simple confession made by millions since.  This is the simple confession I made when I was baptized.  When I said these words, they meant no less to me than they did to the Ethiopian nearly 2000 years ago.
 
It is true; I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  And maybe I just need to leave it right there.]]>
